Who is Miffy? Is she in the Best Children’s Book of All Time?

On one trip to Amsterdam I discovered Miffy. Miffy is a little girl rabbit in a series of picture books drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna.

There are almost 30 Miffy books, produced in 1953, and they have sold over 85 million copies. Think of her as a kind of Hello Kitty from Japan, or America’s Mickey Mouse. In the photo above are some of the Miffy sculptures I saw on my trip to Utrecht, NL. Each design was an interpretation of Miffy done by a famous artist.

My favorite children’s book was Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak. I loved all the many teeth the monsters had. I also loved the The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats because he had brown skin like me, and I loved to play in the snow.

What was your favorite children’s book and why?
